Local MP joins Haumaru Housing tenants to celebrate opening of new-look community house
Manurewa MP Louisa Wall joined tenants of Leabank Court (12 Kirton Crescent, Manurewa) and Haumaru staff on Friday, 6 September 2019, to celebrate the re-opening of the village’s recently refurbished community house.
The three-bedroom villa at the entrance to the village has been extensively renovated to create a warm and welcoming community environment, where tenants can catch-up and socialise with one another. Stylish new kitchen and bathroom units have been installed, together with new carpeting and soft furnishings, and the fresh new décor provides an attractive meeting place for villagers.
The community house at Leabank Court is one of eight such facilities that are being renovated around the Haumaru village portfolio. It will provide a comfortable, home-from-home meeting space for tenants’ general use and a venue for hosting a wide range of village events, activities, community presentations and other social get-togethers.
As New Zealand’s largest Community Housing Provider that uniquely specialises in providing affordable rental homes for older people, Haumaru seeks to provide positive, inclusive age-friendly communities that support older people’s resilience and connectivity and where social isolation and loneliness are eliminated.
